On October 12, 2018, a young man tried to end his life, but God had a different plan. You see, no matter how far you go or how alone you feel, God is always right there, waiting on you.
On that Friday, this young man slit his wrist open, down to the very bone. He was determined to die. 3 days later, he was in the bleachers at one of our school assemblies. That night, he came to our city-wide program and gave his heart to Jesus. Afterwards, he came up to Matt and told him about his bad self-image–of his feelings of insignificance and that his life meant nothing. He then commented on how Matt had said that his life had a plan and a purpose–on how he mattered; and that God had made him to be unique and different, and had placed such value on him that He sent His Son to die for him.
He said, “Matt, that’s when I realized no matter what anyone thinks, no matter what I think, what God thinks is all I’m gonna focus on from now on.” He said, “I’m never going to do this again.”
Many of our posts show the fun parts of our trips, but it’s moments like these that keep us doing what we do. It’s people like this young man that are the reason we do what we do.
